A fun, rollicking romp with musical references to the music played for silent movies. An homage to the spooky music composed by Danny Elfman, John Williams, Bernard Herrmann, Jerry Goldsmith and others as well as the sound of the piano performances that would accompany silent movies. A piece I originally composed for piano and keyboard ensemble (to imitate a full orchestra and pipe organ). The piece was premiered at Millikin University at my Senior Piano Recital in 1990.
After getting a surprise pair of tickets to the Oregon Symphony yesterday, I was inspired to create a quick "thank you" composition. It's very rewarding when I can take a whole sentence and create a functional melody from it!
My in-progress narrated work for strings & fixed media (and maybe percussion?), "Amber the Spider" is shaping up nicely. Doing my best to create a timeless story that all ages can enjoy... and still having it be about a spider!
